Mentha is a genus of plants in the family Lamiaceae. The exact distinction between species is unclear; it is estimated that 13 to 24 species exist. Hybridization occurs naturally where some species' ranges overlap.

 

Watering 

Mint can grow successfully in a variety of soils and light conditions, but one thing it needs is constantly moist, not saturated, soil with adequate drainage. Mint plants generally need about 1 to 2 inches of water every week, depending on the environmental conditions.

Lights

Mint requires a very bright indoor location. Outdoors, mint can tolerate a good bit of shade. But inside, the more light, the better. Otherwise, the plant will stretch for the light and become leggy and pale.
