The Pachira aquatica (Money Tree plant) originally came from the wetlands in Central and South America and became very popular in Taiwan in the 1980’s. Today, this plant is available throughout the world especially in the bonsai form. Pachira aquatica usually has a central trunk made up of three, five, or seven stems that are often braided together. The top of the Money Tree has the “lucky” 5 lobed leaf arrangements. When small, a Money Tree can be trained as a bonsai or used as a table plant. As the plant matures, it makes an impressive tree often reaching a height of six feet or more. Other plants like pothos and jade plants are sometimes referred to as Money plants, but the Pachira aquatica is the variety used by the followers of Feng Shui. They believe that a Pachira aquatica, when properly placed in a home or business, brings prosperity and good fortune. The Money Tree is considered a powerful symbol of good luck and prosperity. It has a meticulously-braided trunk under a beautiful canopy of leaves which expand with time. We’ve learned by now that money doesn’t grow on trees, but if something this luscious and lovely could help you prosper even a little bit, why not give it a go? Standing at 4 feet tall, this Large Braided Money Tree can liven up any home or office. Money Trees are tolerant of a wide range of conditions, but will thrive in bright, indirect light and slight humidity.
Watering
Water well and then allow the top 1"- 2" of soil to dry out before watering again. A Pachira aquatica requires less water during the winter months when resting. Be sure to use a container with bottom drip holes to prevent over- watering and root rot. It's important to water the soil evenly.
Lights
Position your Money Tree in medium to bright indirect light, turning it every time you water it for even growth and leaf development. This plant will also adapt and do well under fluorescent lights. |
